The exploration of art can take us on incredible journeys whether we are the viewer or the artist. An individual work of art is both physical and manifests a 'bespoke' version that exists within each viewer's mind. Everyone sees the same physical piece of art, yet it makes each of us feel differently telling us a slightly different story. While one person's experience may be like dancing through a field of color and shape, another may be strolling through the same visage but enjoying the narrative or another musing upon the deeper meaning and symbolism. So a piece of art lives in two places, one physical the other within each viewer's mind. Once the light from that physical piece enters one's eye and journeys along the path to the complex mind of the viewer, it changes slightly taking on it's own personal story. As a crowd of gallery visitors wander past, viewing the piece, new facets are created and collectively a jewel is formed. That is how I see art and that is where the value, beauty and unique preciousness of each work resides. That is how we all contribute to any piece we view.
The exciting world of art is also very social. It makes us muse and express ourselves candidly to the fellow viewer beside us in the gallery or comment in social media. It impels us to debate and discuss and open up our very personal inner selves, many times to total strangers. This is particularly true of artists. Each piece of artwork is a glimpse into their character, their innermost feelings, fears... their psyche or what biblical texts refer to as the figurative heart.
I believe we all have an artistic eye for we all know what we like; what appeals to our eye and mind. We may possibly even know why. Whether we are the artist or the one viewing the art, bits and pieces of our self, who we are deep inside, becomes embedded into the artwork as we observe or comment upon it. The piece of art exists in the artwork as well as within the minds of all observers. It swirls and mixes between these two realms of existence as viewers add their comments to the collective. Thus, as artist or observer, we all contribute to the world of art. This I particularly love; that my work is not solo, not just a creation from myself. It is a collaboration of artist and viewer. It is ever growing and alive.
In this blog, I'll be sharing my journey into the gorgeous world of art. As an emerging artist, wide eyed and unsure of... well everything, I'll be learning the in's and out's of this most interesting path that seems to have chosen me. I'll share views of the pieces I'm working on and some of the processes I go through to create them. I'll give you a glimpse into my studio, upcoming new works and let you know of any shows where I'll be exhibiting. Once in a while, as you've experienced already above, I may wax poetic or muse upon a facet of the world of art. In any case, like my paintings, I feel this journey should not be solo, but as I share it, it will grow and take on it's own life as you dear viewer's journey with me.
